DELMIA Ortems — Capacity Planning
Mid-term plan balancing MRP output with finite capacity
Ortems Capacity Planning balances ERP/MRP output — which assumes infinite capacity — against real, finite capacity. It forecasts work-center and resource loads in the mid term, surfaces bottlenecks early and feeds realistic dates back to MRP for an executable plan.
How it works
Production needs from ERP flow into Ortems; the system compares each work-center's capacity to load over a weekly/monthly horizon and highlights overloaded periods. The planner levels load by moving work earlier/later or adding capacity, making the MRP dates ERP uses realistic.
Core functions
- Finite-capacity load leveling
- Work-center and resource load forecasting
- Bottleneck detection and critical-resource analysis
- Scenario evaluation (shift, subcontracting, dates)
- Bidirectional ERP/MRP integration
Benefits for organizations
- Realistic, reliable delivery dates
- Manage bottlenecks in advance
- Higher capacity utilization
- Improved inventory and load balance
- Increases the reliability of the ERP plan
Who is it for? Where is it used?
For mid-sized manufacturers using ERP/MRP but lacking finite-capacity planning — production planning and supply teams. Quick value where variable demand vs. fixed work-center capacity breaks delivery dates.
